audiovisual composition by Parker. Choreography and movement by Sepulveda
(en)counter[balance (2012). Excerpts from a 50″ structured improvisation for dancer and live electronics. Premiered at UC Riverside’s Experimental Dance Studio
(en)counter[balance] is a solo performance installation with a four channel sound environment and an object of experimentation for spatial design and sound/movement sourcing – an ordinary charcoal black folding chair. This work is conceptualized as a live structured improvisation in collaboration with electronic composer-scholar no.e Parker. The work is an experiment on the notion of solo work occurring in close proximity to spectators and addresses the encounter between bodies inhabiting and activating a performance space unexpectedly. It explores the fixed seated body of spectator on view, viewing from multiple directions, and an audience constructed seating arrangement that designs the performance space occurring within a four channel sound environment.
(en)counter[balance] has been realized and experienced as multiple yet diverse iterations due to the spaces where creative processing takes place. The spaces that the work was being processed in informed the design of the chair installation, live performance interactions between dancer/spectator/sound/light/delineated areas of events.

PERFORMANCE AS PROCESS (2011)
Part of the UCR Culver Arts Residency Program
Materials: Video, human body, chairs, live electronic soundtrack. Chair arrangement, choreography and movement by Crystal Sepulveda, MFA. Live sound and video editing by J no.e Parker.
Two separate performances of a structured improvisation between Parker and Sepulveda are layered to reveal slight differences between iterations. The minimal soundtrack consists mainly of the ticking sound of a clock located in the duo’s rehearsal space that Parker layers and processes differently for each iteration of the live performance.
EXPERIMENT ONE (2011)
